Best Summer Salad EVER!!
My new go-to Best Summer Salad ever is this Bunless Cheeseburger Deluxe!
Okay – you may have ordered your burger with no bun in the past. Good for you for cutting some carbs, but this is sooooo much better!
What’s the difference??? – Homemade pickles, the mustard, ketchup, mayo – dressing, and SHREDDED ICEBERG LETTUCE. All things you’re probably missing when you just order your burger without a bun.
I know this sounds crazy, but even my husband said ‘ “Wow, this is really good!”
Start with cheeseburger basics:
- Shredded iceberg lettuce – this is important, don’t try to get fancy with field greens – the sweetness, crunch and juiciness of the iceberg lettuce adds to the salad. Shredded insures a good mix of all ingredients. I buy the pre-shredded lettuce in the salad section at the grocery.
- AMAZING pickles – I used homemade pickles from my friend Lynette – these are so good I’ve caught my husband eating then right out of the jar in the middle of the night.
- Big slices of tomato.
- Fresh sliced sweet onions – like Vidalia
- Avocado – this is optional, but I never eat a burger without it! (Okay, never is a BIG word, but I add whenever I can.)
- Burger patties – season them however you like.
- Fresh ground pepper
- Cheese – I prefer the classic cheeseburger cheese – creamy, delicious American – Kraft Deli Deluxe is my favorite! It melts perfectly.
- Mustard, Ketchup, Mayo dressing – this is your personal preference on quantity, my husband loves mustard wo we’re heavy on the Mustard – the key is to mix it all together really well.
Put it all together – layering matters! The perfect fork-full of this salad should include a little bit of everything.

Final step – top with your flame broiled cheeseburger patty and another round of freshly ground black pepper.
Cut the burger patty into bite sized pieces and enjoy!
Both Park and I really enjoyed this simple salad. I hope you will too!
If you try this recipe, please leave a comment below and tell me how you enjoyed and if/how you customized it to be your “perfect” cheesburger.
Thanks for stopping by,

That would be a great meal with our temps running around 115 here in the AZ desert.
If you try it let me know what you think. It sounds weird, but the iceberg lettuce really adds to this salad. Kind of “cool” – maybe it’s the term iceberg – LOL. Thanks so much for joining me and taking the time to comment.
Love this. I topped mine with a veggie burger and it was AMAZING!
YUMMM – and even better for you. Did you use the Spicy Black Bean Burger or something else.
Wellllll, hubs is allergic to tomatoes . . . and cannot eat onions . . . or pickles . . . or too much lettuce . . . Those issues are all health-related. Two appendectomies (yes, two – no, he did not have double appendicies/appendi-?) and a bout with colon cancer (HE WON!) and other health issues shortened the list of what he can eat without unpleasant repercussions!
Then we have the picky eater issues – he won’t touch avocados . . . or mustard . . . or mayo . . . or pepper. Actually I don’t like pepper either – we don’t have it in the house. Except for some of those little packs that come with take-out meals. Those are just in case someone dining with us wants some. But I love the idea! I’ll come up with a variation . . .
Hi Char – let me know what you come up with – it will be a challenge! Thanks for visiting the blog. t.
